The Role of the Board of Trustees

The board is responsible for governing the school and setting the direction of the school, including curriculum, staff, property, health and safety, finance and administration. The board in consultation with staff, parents and students, makes decisions for the school which the teachers and the principal then put in place.

The board is required to have a Charter, Strategic Plan and Annual Development Plan, which sets out long-term goals and annual targets for the school.  The board also has to monitor and report on progress towards these goals to the community.

Governance at our School

The board is entrusted to work on behalf of all stakeholders and is accountable for the school’s performance. It emphasises strategic leadership, sets the vision for the school and ensures that it complies with legal and policy requirements. Policies are at governance level and outline delegations to the Principal. The board and the Principal form the leadership team with the role of each documented and understood.

The Principal reports to the board as a whole with committees used only where a need is identified in order to contribute to board work. The board is proactive in its operations and decision-making and does not involve itself in the day-to-day administration of the school.

Enhancing student achievement is the boards primary focus.

Board Meetings

The Woodlands Park School board meets at 6.30 pm on a Wednesday evening in the second and eighth week of each term. All members of the school community are welcome to attend and observe, however if the board is considering confidential matters, the meeting, or a part of it, will be closed. Speaking rights may be granted upon application. If you wish to do so please contact the office. Meetings are advertised in the school newsletter.
